Ben and Leilani were just starting the sixth grade at a new school and fate placed in the same homeroom where they met for the first time. While they weren't always in the same circles, they continued to be friendly and through mutual friends, were always in one another lives. Beach days, birthday parties, and much more were celebrated together. After graduating high school, they stayed updated on one another through social media (Thanks Facebook!)
After spending some time away from Kona, Leilani moved back in May of 2015 and reconnected with Ben, again through the help of mutual friends, but this time a truer friendship was formed between the two of them. Just as Leilani started developing feelings for Ben, he announced that he was moving to Washington state for school at the end of that summer. Staying in touch through social media once again, Leilani went to visit family in Washington in March of 2017 and met up with Ben while in the area. The feelings that started to develop back in 2015 came back in full force and this time they weren't going away.
Ben came back to Hawaii to spend a belated Holiday with his family and he and Leilani reconnected once again over the New Year. Beach days, dinner dates, and game nights turned into late nights as their love story officially began. Ben left back to Washington and he and Leilani started dating long distance. Three months later in March Ben visited Hawaii once again to "seal the deal" and they officially became a couple. Another three months passed and Ben moved home to Hawaii to be with Leilani, just before her 24th birthday in June. She still says that was the best birthday present she has ever gotten.
Ben and Leilani began their lives together and as they got to know one another better and better not only were they partners in love, but more importantly they became each others best friend. Ben fit seamlessly into the life Leilani was living in Hawaii and their respective friends and family loved them together. They fell hard, and they fell fast. Life has been great, but now it will be even better as they embark on this new journey of marriage and family.
Oh no! After gearing up to plan a wedding, COVID-19 hit and plans kept changing- it seemed like nothing was in control. After planning multiple different weddings, going through Plans A-E, and many sleepless nights, Leilani and Ben made the difficult decision that they were going to get married even if it was without any of their friends and families. The final choice was to have a small and intimate ceremony with just their parents in attendance. The only stipulation being that once we are all able to safely gather, we will come together and celebrate the Union of Leilani and Ben.
