On Friday of Labor Day weekend, Leila drove up to visit her youngest sister Tara who was living on Donner Lake. She and Tara were sitting on one of the public piers (pier 33) soaking in the sunshine, dipping in and out of the lake, and sharing a bottle of rose. Brendan had left work and although he hadn’t received clear confirmation from his youngest brother Brian ( B child), he hooked up the trailer and hauled his boat to the lake. B child called Brendan and asked to be picked up on the public pier closest to their house. Leila who apparently was not focused intently on her sister, caught sight of the Ski Nautique, and without thinking she stood up. Tara could see what was about to happen and she said, “ Leila , you cannot invite yourself on that boat!” To which Leila promptly replied , “Oh I’m getting on that boat to go waterskiing and so are you !” Leila yelled in the direction of the boat, “Hey! Are you going waterskiing ?” No response. “Do you have a woman’s waterski ?” The boys idled over and BChild asked, “Do you want to go waterskiing ?” Leila said, “Well, yes ! How did you know ?” BChild asked, “Do you know how to waterski ?” Leila said , “Yes, I do.” That’s when Brendan spoke up, he said, “ We don’t have a woman’s waterski but you can ski on mine.” Leila got in the boat (Tara stayed behind but joined a half hour later ) and went for a ski.
