Never did I imagine that I would meet the man who would become my lifelong partner at my workplace - a pharmacy at that! Our story began in July 2015, when I walked into my shift at Walgreens. From a distance when I first saw him, he resembled a pharmacist friend I knew so I called out his name and said hello. No response. I walked up and embarrassingly realized that I had the wrong person. Which quickly became totally fine because he was cute. I couldn’t figure out his age between his youthful looks and his plentiful white hair, nor could I guess his nationality, since he looks more Korean than me. Like many women, I had a checklist of qualities that I envisioned for my perfect future husband. While he seemed like a good guy, right off the bat Andrew was an anomaly in my expectations. However, as I got to know him, he found his way into my heart and unknowingly I had thrown my checklist out the window. After many denials, I knew I liked him, a lot. Well, my heart did. It wouldn’t stop fluttering every time I saw his smile, and my face wouldn’t stop turning red when I smiled back. So.. That’s how it took off!
I believe that everything happens for a reason, and good things can come when they are least expected. It was my first day on the job as a newly-licensed pharmacist, haphazardly thrown into one of the busiest Walgreens in Connecticut. On the outside, I was my usual, calm and composed self. On the inside, however, I was like a chicken running around with its head cut off. "Laser focus", I told myself. That was my forte - blocking out all the distractions and chaos around the pharmacy and doing my own thing. However, that day God placed a distraction before me that I absolutely could not ignore. I glanced up outside the pharmacy window and saw her standing a few feet away, grabbing some things off a shelf. "Is she an employee..?" I looked away for a moment to get back to my work, but there was something about her that drew me to take a second glance, and then came the third. When I looked up for the fourth time, she was gone, and my heart sank a little. Seconds later, I heard the beeping of the pharmacy door code being entered. I held my breath. In walked my future wife, throwing on her white coat. A silly grin crept its way onto my face as I did an inner fist pump. Luckily, she thought I was kinda cute. And the rest was history.
On August 1, 2017 we were on a Lin family trip to Reno, Nevada. We had gone there the previous year and loved our time at beautiful Lake Tahoe and the surrounding beaches. My older brother and sister-in-law who live in Reno wanted to be in on the surprise, and so that was how the location was set. Ellen had an inkling suspicion that I was going to propose, but couldn't find a ring in the luggage. Long story short, there was – in retrospect – a painfully obvious yet successful set-up courtesy of the Lin family, a ninja-worthy ring box that fit stealthily in my wallet, and a big "uh-oh" moment when I realized that the "beach" I wanted to propose at was wiped out due to flooding in the previous months. Despite some unexpected mishaps, the bride-to-be said yes and shed some happy tears. Mission accomplished! We're super excited to celebrate this next chapter in our lives with you. See you all in Long Island City!
