Lee had just landed a new job and was getting ready to attend a tech conference in Portland, Maine. At first, they were extra excited about it because, classic Lee, they thought the conference was in Portland, Oregon, a place they had always wanted to visit. Once the mix-up was cleared up, they realized Maine was actually the perfect place to pull off a surprise they had been planning for months. Lee had been secretly working with a ring maker to design the perfect ring for AJ, something that truly captured her personality. They also reached out to a photographer to help plan the big moment. Since part of the trip was already covered by the conference, Lee asked AJ to come along, casually mentioning she should bring a nice outfit for a “fancy dinner.” As the day of the proposal got closer, Lee grew more nervous but tried to play it cool. In true Lee fashion, they ran a little behind schedule and ended up speeding down the winding cliffside roads of Acadia National Park to make it to Monument Cove before sunset. AJ started getting a little suspicious about why they were suddenly driving into the middle of nowhere, but Lee kept brushing it off with a smile. When they finally arrived, AJ noticed a setup and a photographer waiting, and that’s when it clicked that something big was about to happen. Lee, completely overcome with nerves, forgot the beautiful speech they had planned and just dropped to one knee and asked AJ to marry them. It was exactly four years from the day they first spoke, which made the moment even more meaningful. There were tears, laughter, and so much love. Afterward, they celebrated with a delicious dinner (yum yum!) and couldn’t stop smiling the rest of the night.
