We met at the tech booth at Genesis Church. Lee introduced himself to the team serving that day as he was in candidacy to be our new Worship Pastor. Lee was voted in by the congregation on June 16th and began serving as the Worship Pastor at Genesis on July 14th, 2024.

Lee & Mariah worked very closely at Genesis Church for a year as they led the Worship Arts and Creative Arts Ministries respectively. They became friends. They kept one another in prayer through struggles. They learned a lot about working together through the good and bad with the intention of glorifying their King.

With it being Lee's first Christmas in PA, he did not really have a family to go to. Mariah invited him to join her and her parents for Christmas if he wanted to. He came that day and they watched their favorite Christmas Movie, "It's a Wonderful Life." Lee ended up returning several days between Christmas & New Year's so the Henry's could teach him about sledding, snowball fights, building snowmen, and making hot coco from scratch.

One day, Lee realized that he was not seeing Mariah the same way he had before. As other girls tried to pursue him, Mariah kept coming to his mind. Lee spoke with Pastor Bob (Lead Pastor at Genesis Church), asking if he would be allowed to ask Mariah out, even though they worked so closely together.

Lee texted Mariah & asked if they could "chat." Mariah said she would have some time after the VBS video proofing session. Lee was so nervous as he stood and watched the VBS videos. At the end, Mariah asked what he wanted to chat about? He asked if there was somewhere more private? She said, "Sure, we can go to the auditorium. There are cameras in there so being alone won't be an issue and I have to move the flag on stage anyway." As she walked toward the stage, Lee began prefacing what he was about to ask. It took Mariah until she got to the middle of the 2,000 seat auditorium to realize that he was talking about something serious and she should stop working, face him, and listen. He told her he had already talked to Pastor Bob and asked her if she would be willing to begin a relationship outside of work with the intention of marriage? Mariah said yes, she was willing.

Lee & Mariah went on their first official date on Sunday, July 6th, 2025. They enjoyed hibatchi and ice cream, and Lee taught Mariah how to play pool. They each brought a pre-written list of things that drew them to the other one, potential issues they could foresee with their personalities in a marriage, set boundaries for their relationship in the dating phase, and prayed together. From the beginning, they wanted to do this God's way.

Through the following months, Lee & Mariah spent a lot of time together outside of work cooking, hiking, watching movies (and the tv show "The Mentalist" on DVD), doing bible studies, going to museums, and more. Mariah introduced Lee to thrift stores and Lee introduced Mariah to golf.

Lee & Mariah went to Georgia for Thanksgiving so that Mariah could meet Lee's family & friends. It was a very busy week visiting family and friends, learning how to make Cabbage Rolls, and attending Lee's childhood church. The biggest thing that came from that trip was that everyone really enjoyed being together and loved one another regardless of Mariah being a "damn Yankee." On the ride home, the couple talked about how beautiful the week was and planned out the wedding and guest list in about 3 hours.

Lee scheduled a "meeting" with Mariah to go over sound cues for the upcoming Creative Arts presentation, Drummer Boy. As they began looking through cues and finding a few that needed work, Mel (Lead Custodian at Genesis) called out "Hey guys, I found something, you gotta see this." Mariah, knowing he has been cleaning for many years and probably has seen everything got really excited to see something new! Lee & Mariah trotted over to where Mel stood in the auditorium and Mel handed Lee a ring. Mariah knew immediately what was going on, in the exact location where Lee first told Mariah how he felt about her. Lee shared his heart, got down on one knee and asked, "Mariah Nichole Henry, will you marry me?" Mariah said yes!
