Sara's Dad
Sara's dad could light up a room just by walking through the door. Even after long days at his law firm, he would return home late at night, sit at the foot of Sara's bed, and let her play with his hair (what little he had) while they talked about their days. Sara knows he would have loved Josh to pieces and would have especially appreciated Josh's ability to make Sara laugh, even when she is grumpy and sleep deprived.
Josh's maternal Bubbie and Zaide
Josh used to say that Sara always prepared food for enough people as were coming, squared. Because what if everyone wanted to eat the same thing? But also, what if each person wanted a different item? That giving and considerate spirit carried over into everything she did. She would have appreciated the way Sara Lederman cares for others and her strong connection to Jewish life.
Sara's maternal Zaide
From Shabbat pillow fights, to Saturday morning rounds at Children's Hospital of Minnesota, Sara's Zaide Mace always knew how to engage kids. He taught Sara what it means to be a true mensch and she tries to channel a little bit of him every time she meets a sick kid in the hospital. Sara thinks he would have appreciated Josh's commitment to being a good friend and his knack for finding good food in every corner of the world.
Josh's paternal grandmother
Rita was a woman of few words, but someone who always got her point across. She had a passion for education and self-reliance. When Josh was young, he hated reading because he found it too hard. Rita sat him down and made him read Go Dog Go to her (which he will never forget). Rita always wanted what was best for us, even if we didn’t want it for ourselves. She would have loved Sara’s determination and focus on public good.
Sara's paternal Bubbie and Zaide
Sara's Zaide Marty and Bubbie Marge persevered raising 3 Brooklyn boys in the '60s, resulting in many stories that Sara loved hearing (on repeat) as a kid -- and most of those stories took place in her Zaide's kosher deli. They modeled a work ethic and tenacity that made Sara's world possible. She thinks they both would have adored Josh, his love of learning, and his excitement over finding a good deal at the super market.
Josh's paternal grandfather
Throughout his professional life, Moe rose from a copy boy to the CEO of the company. That hardworking spirit and strong ethical code was something he always tried to instill in his descendants. Always a colorful storyteller, Moe brought a passion and determination to everything he did. He would have appreciated Sara’s joy for life and especially her progressive politics.
Sara's uncle
Uncle Jerry always knew how to include others. When Sara's mom married Kenny, Jerry took on his new role as Sara's uncle with joy and dedication, always reminding her how much he adored her both with words and loads of sushi. Jerry would have loved Josh's goofiness and generosity.
