It all started on Match.com. Jess came up as a "suggested match" on my feed, so I took a look at her profile and was intrigued. But then I looked at what she was searching for in a match, and it was not me! I was outside her age-range and didn't really consider myself to be the "fit and athletic" type she was seeking. But attraction is attraction so I simply clicked like and moved on. Jess received the "like" notification and took a look at my profile. She thought I looked familiar, but could not quite put her finger on why. She saw my picture with the Stanley Cup and wondered...was I a hockey dad? Was I coach? Did I play men's league? Coincidentally, the answer to all of the above was no. But the curiosity was enough to prompt her to send a message. It was a simple message...where did you have your picture taken with the Stanley Cup? I explained that it was at a Mariner's Game and she shared with me that she saw it at Biddeford Ice Arena when Brian Dumoulin brought it to town. This led to a lot of hockey talk. It was then that we realized that we had some friends in common. I explained that I had a couple friends who were hockey officials. Jess, being heavily involved in the hockey officiating world of course knew exactly who they were. That's when I made the connection. I knew of Jess already, in fact, I followed her on Instagram! When I told her that, she was surprised...and when she looked, she realized that she followed me too! We figured that was enough coincidence to warrant an actual date. So, in a nutshell, we met online because of the Stanley cup, even though we already "knew" each other through social Media....and yes, you can meet your true love on a dating app!
