Leanne was in school at Texas A&M Corpus Christi and Malachi was in the Navy stationed nearby. in 2008 hurricane Ike was on its way to the South Texas Coast. The small coastal towns were evacuated and most or all business boarded their doors and windows. The Navy required Malachi to stay behind in the event the ship needed to be moved. Sean, one of his fellow sailors whom was also required to stay behind caught wind of a hurricane party being thrown by some surfer ladies. These ladies chose to stay because hurricane waves are as good as it gets with South Texas surf. The two ladies throwing the hurricane party were Leanne and her roommate Gina. Hurricane Ike was a dud when it arrived but, it brought big waves and love. Sean and Gina have been married since 2009 and of course soon Leanne and Malachi will be too.

On a pretty epic sailing trip from Oahu to Kauai in the Hawaiian islands Malachi asked Leanne for her hand in marriage. They were with close friends on a hike along the southern coast of Kauai. The hike required jumping off cliffs and swimming through caves. The climax of the hike takes you to an unadulterated coast. This part of the coast line had ravines formed by water from the mountain. The ravines created rocky widow's peaks that protruded into ocean. Malachi asked Leanne to walk out to the end of the longest peak for a picture. on her way out to the peak Malachi sprinted back to their friends and yelled "IT'S TIME" so they could get a drone ready. As Malachi sprinted toward Leanne the drone caught up and chased him down the coast as he stumbled to his knee.
