Electricity and water has been restored, recovery process has been slow and steady for the island and its people (those who remain). Beaches, rainforests, and ecosystems were also greatly affected and are also healing incredibly. The country had a massive debt crisis before the category 5 hurricane hit and was largely abandoned by the US government. The resilience and pride of this population is astounding and the island is definitely up and running! I encourage you to keep this in mind during your stay here and help support the economy. Buy the bottle of sealed cold water being sold at the stoplight if you are thirsty. Stop at the food truck popups on the side of the road if you need a snack. This is the most special island, and we hope you enjoy it.
Please wear what makes you happy! Island formal? (We want you to be comfortable, but go for it if you want to!) We are just excited to see your faces! Our ceremony is the only part of the wedding on grass. If you want to leave a light cover up and your dancing shoes in the car for later, the parking lot is close to the venue.
Yes, there are bugs, specifically mosquitos which can be a nuisance. They are worse with heavy rains and heat, so hopefully in April they won't be too bad. 1. Off bug spray 2. I made natural bug spray with peppermint and eucalyptus lemon essential oils recipes found online. 3. I bought an electric charged handheld mosquito zapper in the shape of a tennis racket for indoors. 4. I run the portable fan at night.
1. If you are going to beach it, bring sunscreen (reapply!), sun hat, & swim shirts. 2. This is the tropics bring shorts, breezy tops or dresses, sandals, & keens (can double for hiking shoes) 3. Light cover ups, long sleeves, or shawls if you tend to get cold 4. It can get breezy in the evenings, bring a light sweater or sweatshirt if you tend to get cold 5. Bug spray, I will have some natural and store bought at the wedding for you to use, but probably should have some for personal use
We highly encourage all of our guests to enjoy this beautiful celebration and gathering. We are celebrating our wedding, but also the union of two families and finishing medical school! We want to see your faces and not phones, so please try to unplug for as much of the wedding as you can. We have an incredible wedding photographer and videographer and will be sharing pictures. Human connection and sharing with others is very important to us.
Food here is incredible. If you see lots of people pulled over at a food truck or kiosk, that’s a sure stop.
