We met in the most unexpected and perfect way — on a pickleball court with Leah’s parents. Leah’s dad, John, and Richard struck up a conversation about God, sports, and politics, and quickly realized they were completely aligned. By the end of the game, John was asking Richard for his number… not for Leah, but so they could play pickleball again the next time he was in town. That same night, John handed Leah Richard’s number and said, “You should text him.” So she did. Richard happened to be out of town for two weeks, which meant they spent the next fourteen days getting to know each other over text — long conversations, lots of laughter, and an instant connection. When Richard got home, he asked Leah out for coffee. Two weeks of dates later, they were completely in love. They officially started dating on December 4th, 2024. Over the past year, they’ve traveled, explored, and built a life centered around their shared love for God, adventure, and staying active. Richard proposed in Italy on Lake Como — the most magical moment of their lives. And since they both love Hawaii (and were even there at the same time in 2023 without ever crossing paths!), they knew there was no better place to begin their marriage than by going back together. They chose the Big Island because it’s new for both of them — and because it’s known for its incredible coffee. Coffee has been woven into their story from the very beginning: the first thing Richard ever bought Leah was coffee beans from Colombia before their first date… which, of course, was also over coffee. They’ll be celebrating their wedding at sunrise on a black sand beach with just their immediate families. While they wish they could have every one of you there with them, they’ll be hosting a co-ed shower before Hawaii and would love to celebrate with you before their big day.
