Sikh Ceremony (Anand Karaj)

9:30 am - 1:30 pm

Sikh Temple of North Texas
506 Gatewood Road, Garland, TX 75040

This event requires shoes to be removed and your head to be covered inside of the Gurdwara (temple). Should you need one, head coverings will be provided. Attire should be modest and comfortable enough to sit on carpeted flooring. For questions please feel free to reach out to Angad or Leah.

A Sikh wedding is a beautiful representation of elegance, purity, and serenity. The ceremony referred to as the "Anand Karaj" traditionally takes place in a Sikh Temple known as a "Gurdwara" in the presence of the Sikh holy scripture known as the "Guru Granth Sahib Ji". During the ceremony, the Groom, followed by the Bride, circles the Guru Granth Sahib Ji. This action is conducted four times and as a whole is referred to as "Lavaan". Each Laav represents the couple's joint spiritual journey toward a union with the divine - the union of the human soul "Atma" with the supreme being "Parmatama". Breakfast & Lunch (Langar) will be served at the Gurdwara both before and after the marriage ceremony.

One of the distinctive elements of a Melse is the emphasis on cultural traditions and customs. During this reception, traditional Ethiopian music, dance and attire will take center stage! This gathering, hosted by family, will celebrate the newlyweds and their two families coming together as one.
