The Proposal was a spur of the moment decision in a weird way. Not in the sense that I didn't know I was going to propose, as I had the diamond for almost a year. However, I had no idea where or when in Hawaii it would take place. Hillari and I love to explore and I decided to take the ring everywhere with me and that I would know when the time was right, or thought I would at least. Our first part of the trip was to Oahu and we had a fantastic time exploring rainforests and some of the prettiest beaches known to man. However, none of the moments seemed perfect enough so I decided to wait and see what the island of Maui would bring us. We spent a day scuba diving and exploring locally where we were staying on Maui around Kihei. I knew I was running out of time but still had hope the perfect moment would arise. Little did I know, it would be on the Road to Hana. We took the long trek to Hana and explored multiple waterfalls and lava caves along the way. We wanted to see the famous black sand beach but didn't know you had to have reservations to do so due to Covid so we continued around the island. A few miles down the road, we stopped at a location called the Venus pools, which were a couple of pools at the mouth of the ocean. When hiking to the pools, the trail turned right which led right into the pools where people were cliff jumping and enjoying the scenery. But to the left of the trail, led to a tiny, private, black sand cove. I knew then that this would be the place. We slipped down into the cove via a tree that had fallen and were looking out over the waves to the Big Island in the distance. I signaled to Hillari's Uncle Jeff that this would be the spot. Nervous as I had ever been with waves crashing around us, I got down on one knee and asked the love of my life to be my wife and thankfully she said yes. I will forever remember that day as one of the most magical moments in one of the most magical places.
