In October 2021, fate (and a little help from Chispa, a dating app) brought Ulyses and Layra together. Ulyses had just moved from Los Angeles to Chattanooga, while Layra had been rooted in the city for years. One late night, a match was made — Ulyses admired Layra’s style in her blazer, and Layra couldn’t resist the charm of Ulyses’s headshot. On October 14th, Layra and Ulyses met for the first time at Coolidge Park as the sun was setting. Both were eager and nervous, especially Ulyses, who quickly felt relief upon discovering Layra was just as real — and even more radiant — than her photos. They spent the evening walking through the park, crossing the Walnut Street Bridge, and sharing ice cream. At the end of the night, Ulyses walked Layra to her car and she gave him a ride to his car, with a bold spark of courage, leaned in for a quick kiss before getting out of car — leaving Layra with the impression that this man was daring and confident. Though Ulyses pursued her with persistence, Layra was hesitant, cautious about why someone would fight so hard for her. Everything shifted in January 2022 when Ulyses returned from a trip to Los Angeles and invited her to dinner. That same night, one of Layra’s best friends, Fred, happened to be passing through town and shared some wise advice: “Give Ulyses a fair chance.” Trusting her friend’s words, Layra agreed to spend Valentine’s Day with Ulyses, and together they celebrated at the breathtaking Biltmore Mansion in Asheville, North Carolina. Just a few weeks later, on March 6th, 2022, Ulyses officially asked Layra to be his girlfriend. Since then, their love has been filled with adventures and countless shared moments. They’ve explored many cities, concerts, baseball games, restaurants, and museums together. Traveling quickly became their favorite getaway, strengthening their connection and creating lasting memories. On November 15, 2024, after attending Adele’s Las Vegas Residency, Ulyses surprised Layra with a proposal. He guided her to a glowing heart arch surrounded by candles, as Bruno Mars’s “I Think I Wanna Marry You” played in the background. With love, excitement, and joy, Layra said yes.
