This area has been one of our favorites over the last few years as it's filled with a few of our favorite local breweries. We recommend stopping by Our Mutual Friend, Ratio Beerworks and Epic Brewing while you're in the area. Take some time to stroll through the alleys between Larimer and Walnut to check out some local artwork.
Probably a more convenient visit if you have a car, the famous and well known Red Rocks ampitheater is one of our favorite spots for concerts (and also a great spot for a workout or a hike). It's a Colorado icon for a reason.
Golden is the perfect spot to visit if you're wanting to visit somewhere outside the city without driving a few hours. A quick 25 minutes down the road will take you to the birthplace of Colorados best, Coors Brewing. Outside of the beer, the town is full of cute shops, walkable streets, a river, parks and you guessed it.. more local breweries. Our favorites in the area are Mountain Toad & New Terrain.
If you're looking to get a little deeper into the mountains while you're here we suggest visiting Winter Park, CO. This is a valley we spend time in year round for obvious reasons. It's not too far from Denver (just over an hour) and you can get a nice dose of those famous Colorado mountain views. There's a good chance there will still be snow on the ground in May so we'd leave the sandals in the city and pack a jacket instead.
If you're wanting to spend some time in the city there's a few areas we recommend seeing. Larimer Square is famous to downtown Denver and worth strolling around. We recommend stopping on at The Market on Larimer for a sweet treat then head down Union Station just a few blocks away to gawk at the beautiful space. From there we recommend continuing your walk over to Denver's Milk Market with local food, drinks, a photographic pedestrian alley and some local retail shops.
So maybe you want to do something fun that doesn't involve visiting a brewery? The Denver Museum of Nature & Science is a fun one to add to your list and a good way to spend a few hours looking at all different areas.
Maybe you're into art, maybe not. If you are, this is a cool spot to add to your list. I will say, if you go with the intention of wanting to see EVERYTHING, you're going to want to plan for 3+ hours...at least. Two other art museums worth visiting are The Museum of Contemporary Art and The Clyfford Still Museum (these two will also take less time to visit but are not short on wows).
