In May of 2017, Darby - in a very unusual move for this guy who is not a fan of social media – commented on one of Laurie’s Instagram posts. A couple of weeks later, Laurie sees Darby in the Admin at camp and something sparks. After a few weeks of flirtation, texts, and finding reasons to “run into each other” at camp, they planned a first date. On June 9, Darby and Laurie go on their first date – to a brewery of course – at Druthers in Saratoga. They talked and laughed and connected so well that they missed the first showing of the movie for which they had bought tickets. They decided to talk more and go to the second showing of Wonder Woman that night. Afterwards, Darby walked Laurie to her door (a mere two feet from the car) and they had their first kiss. That was the early summer night that changed everything. Summer flew by with Camp Echo Lake, Laurie meeting Megan and Jacob, Darby meeting Laurie’s family, and the undeniable connection they had growing stronger and strong. At the end of August that summer, Darby and Laurie went to see Sting in concert at SPAC. Sitting under the stars, they both knew, and that night was the first time they said, “I love you.” That fall, Laurie met Darby’s family (at least the ones who did not work at CEL), Laurie fell in love with Megan and Jacob too, and the two began to weave each other into their lives. They went to see Billy Joel in concert in NYC and Radiohead in concert in Boston. She was a night owl, and he was an early bird, but they figured out how to make it all work. It all felt so easy and natural and beshert. Family and friends became interchangeable, and it was obvious to all that these two were building a life together that they loved. In early 2020, Darby and Laurie bought 5 acres of beautiful Adirondack land and, along with Megan and Jacob, built their dream home. Together with their dogs, Stella and Mabel, they moved into their new home on Snowshoe Ridge (AKA Langworthy Loop) in June of 2021. The rest involved blending families for holidays; cheering on the kids at soccer, basketball, softball, baseball, and more; road trips to places near and far; working at Camp Echo Lake and Canon Medical; the birth of Bandstand Brew Works; singing songs both new and “old” in the car; enjoying their home; and concerts and sporting events when possible. Lots of joy, laughter, and memories being made. Long before March of 2022, Darby and Laurie knew they would spend their lives together. They loved Megan and Jacob with all their hearts, they had their beautiful home, they worked hard, they were blessed with unbelievable family and incredible friends, and forever was clearly in their future. On March 14, 2022, in their favorite place to be, the home they built together, Darby proposed. He had already shown the ring he designed to the kids and spoken to Laurie’s parents. They cried, they laughed, and of course they took pictures! They were engaged, and it all felt so good and so right. And now… they could not have the wedding of their dreams without the family and friends that mean the most to them - and a gigantic party filled with dancing and fun! So, mark your calendars, drop whatever you have going on, and get ready for the best weekend ever!
