Two newly sober people sat across from each other at a wine class. Matthew was an aspiring animator still bartending to pay the bills. Laura was starting her new career as a Reiki practitioner and waiting tables as she built her client base. Both of them had studied acting at NYU at roughly the same time, but were ships passing in the night. And yet here they were, some ten years later, sitting across from one another at a wine class when both of them no longer drank. Conversation turned to morning routines. "What do you eat for breakfast?" Matt was on a "banana-and-one-cup-of-black-coffee" routine at the time, which prompted Laura to divulge the entire history of the banana from ancient civilizations to today. It was a lot of information. Matt would remember her simply as "The Banana Girl." If you had asked either the sober bartender/aspiring animator and reiki master/banana aficionado if they knew they were destined for one another; that they would be dating within a year and engaged in another six months; that they would both be thriving creatively, growing rapidly in their chosen professions, that they would be lifting each other up to be the best version of themselves, if you had asked either of them if they thought that life would lead them down that road, they probably would have chuckled at the thought and brushed off such an improbable notion. And yet here we are, Laura and Matt, roughly two years later, madly in love. We found the perfect companion in each other, and we can't imagine a future that doesn't involve getting married and spending the rest of our lives together. So many amazing things have happened for each of us since we met, and we look forward to sharing our love with our friends and family. We look forward to seeing you at our wedding in Virginia, and bringing together so many wonderful people for a celebration of love and light. And disco dancing.
