Kevin and I had known each other for many years through mutual friends. Every time I saw him, I couldn’t help but think to myself, “He’s so cute and funny.” But for one reason or another, the timing was never quite right to express how I felt. One day, I finally gathered the courage to send him a message on social media—a simple, friendly hello, hoping he might respond. To my delight, he did. From there, we began texting, talking on the phone, staying up late into the night, and truly getting to know one another. For about a month, our connection grew stronger with each conversation. Eventually, we decided it was time to go on our first date. We met at a small burger joint in Poughkeepsie, NY. (I was so nervous, I had already eaten beforehand—so of course, he found it a little odd that I didn’t want anything to eat. LOL!) Despite that, I left that night knowing I really liked him and wanted to see where things could go. Thankfully, he felt the same. In the weeks that followed, we went hiking, enjoyed picnics, walked our dogs, and shared endless laughter and stories. We built something meaningful in a short amount of time—something that felt real. Then, on March 26th, 2015, while parked in front of his dad’s house in Greentree, Kevin asked me to be his girlfriend. And without hesitation, I said yes.
