John swears that he saw me in October 2018. He said I jumped out of a doorway to scare someone and he instantly fell in love. 😏 Four months later, we were both at a wake for a mutual friend's dad. John approached the group I was standing with and introduced himself...and just kept coming back and would always say, "Hey, Lauren Zimmers!" We became Facebook friends that evening. I sent him a message a couple days later, saying, "Hey, John McCaughey!" He thought he was in trouble due to the full name but I was just replicating him from the first time we met. We hung out that weekend...met each other's families the first weekend we hung out...and have been together ever since.

I told John, one of my favorite movies (About Time) had a remarkable proposal. He woke her up and proposed and she told him she was happy he didn't make a bid spectacle out of it (which he actually had planned and had to cancel). I just loved the simplicity and intimacy of it. Well, the night before his proposal, I was at the ER until around 4 am with my Maid of Honor for her ear infection. Needless to say, I was incredibly tired...and if you know me, you know I LOVE MY SLEEP! So John tried replicating my favorite proposal but I slept through it...nearly three times! But I finally responded with a head nod and then an absolutely, once I realized what was going on. So, lesson learned, I shouldn't have told him I loved the proposal where an actress, in a movie, was asked for her hand in marriage, while she was sleeping. 🤷🏻‍♀️
