Highlands is located on a plateau in the southern Appalachian Mountains, within the Nantahala National Forest. Literally and metaphorically, Highlands rises above the noise at 4118 feet. Depending on where you're coming from and what you're accustomed to, the drive can be a little intimidating. However, all roads are paved. Just take your time and bring dramamine if you think you may need it.
The historic Hutchinson House & Gardens is located just on the edge of the busy downtown area of Highlands, at 594 Main Street. The driveway entrance is marked by two stacked stone driveway markers but the area is wooded and it can be tricky to see. On-site parking is prohibited on Saturday 10/23. All wedding guests must park offsite at Hudson Library (554 Main Street) or anywhere along Main St. which has all free parking. The Hutchison House & gardens (where ceremony will take place) is located about 1/4 mile down the gravel driveway. Guests can be dropped off at the house, but vehicles must be parked elsewhere. As the driveway is unpaved and ceremony will take place in the garden area, please make considerations for footwear, if concerned. The ceremony, cocktail hour and reception will all be held outdoors. Also, please be advised: Highlands does not have Uber or Lyft. There are some taxi services, but accommodations must be made ahead of time if taxi services are needed.
Please join us at Hutchison House Friday evening for a "Welcome Party." We will have an informal, casual gathering for anyone interested in attending. These event will be primarily indoors although there are decks and grounds for anyone who would rather catch up/eat outdoors. We will have a buffet style barbecue and other goodies to eat and drink. Stop by, catch up, and grab a bite after you make it up the mountain and get settled in. The welcome party will begin at 6:30pm and end promptly at 9pm. No dress code. Parking on-site is allowed the evening of the Welcome Party; however, parking is very limited. We would encourage everyone who is able to park and walk to do so. Parking is available at Hudson Library and on all downtown streets.
