We have Mr. Chick Evans to thank for more than just paying for Tommy's college tuition. Lauren transferred to the University of Illinois her Junior year. By then, Tommy had already clocked many hours at KAM'S and wasn't aware he would meet his future wife that year. Lauren frequently visited her best pals who lived down the street from her on campus in the Evans Scholars house. Turns out Tommy also lived here. These two continued to run into one another around campus. They got to know one another as they iced-out their blue guys while dressed in outfits for terribly themed happy hours. They would eventually end their nights by returning to the caddy shack so Tommy could make Lauren one of his world-renowned paninis on his George Foremen grill and fall asleep in a twin XL bed (meant for one human).
Weeks before, Lauren had been campaigning for something fun to do with friends for the long Memorial Day weekend. When the weekend rolled around Lauren and Tommy had a date night planned but nothing else. It seemed to Lauren that no one was interested in her friendship. Tommy distracted her with the food and drinks (and great company!). After being wined and dined they started to walk back to their car and Lauren began to wonder why the man she loved so much parked so far away as they passed several parking garages. Tommy decided they should take a detour through Milton Lee Olive Park to get a picture with the skyline. At this point, Lauren was thinking hmm... is this it? But she quickly talked herself down to avoid possible disappointment. After all, Tommy DOES just like to take pictures sometimes. As they approached the spot there was a couple taking their wedding photos and Lauren said something sarcastic along the lines of, "Tommy they're the one's getting married, not us." (Her timing is impeccable). Tommy laughed and got her over to the spot to take some pictures. All of the sudden he was down on one knee and popped the question! Lauren replied, "are you serious?!" multiple times before finally telling the man "yes!" Lauren's best friend, Adrianna, came running out of the bushes to take photos. They then headed back to Tommy's parents house where all of their friends and family were secretly waiting to celebrate their engagement. The weekend plans ended up being MUCH better than Lauren was anticipating.
