Lauren and Sidne met at their church's dragonboat team. Specifically, Sidne and Lauren were meant to race on July 1st but Lauren had dislocated her shoulder the day before. She still turned up to the race. Sidne and Lauren sat together at dinner; Sidne saw Lauren struggle to eat, so he helped her over dinner. They started chatting more afterwards! A few weeks later, the day before they had planned their first date, Lauren received a call from Sidne saying he had been admitted to the hospital for a swollen arm. In the end it turns out Sidne had rhabdomyolysis (when your muscles break down and release toxins into your bloodstream). Lauren accompanied Sidne in the hospital. Sidne thought Lauren was a hero (in his exact wording). Well... they spent their first date in the hospital. And they just went on from there!
