We went on our first date to a brewery in Wichita called Central Standard Brewing. Our first date almost didn't happen after I (Lauren) canceled because I was sick. Shawn didn't believe my story and thought I was just blowing him off! He left the next day for Las Vegas on a work trip and when he finally got back I convinced him to try again. We finally went out on August 11, 2017 and had the absolute best time. We have talked every day since!
Shawn had devised an elaborate plan for a proposal but life happened (as it usually does!) and he had to change his plans around. He decided that he would carry the ring around until the right moment presented itself. I texted him one Friday afternoon and said I wanted to go to happy hour at George's- a bistro here in Wichita. We went and sat at the bar and Allyson joined us. We ordered fancy drinks and watched Allyson try to eat beef tartare that she didn't know would be raw. The whole time I kept commenting on how they were both on their phones and I was basically at happy hour alone. Turns out they were texting each other. Shawn texted Allyson and told her to get ready because he is proposing tonight. Allyson freaked out internally and had to excuse herself to the bathroom to regain composure. I suggested we go back to Allyson's to meet up with Tim after he got off work. When Shawn and I got to their house Allyson was already inside and when we got inside Shawn said "Hey wait I want to go take a picture by that tree across the street" I was confused but I went with it. He asked me to turn around so he could see my hair (I just had it done that day) and when I turned back around he was on one knee and you know the rest! Later I realized Shawn was wearing the outfit he wore on our first date so I should've known it was coming. We celebrated with Ziggy's pizza and wings and it was better than any elaborate plan could've been and much more "us"!
We recently moved from Wichita to Norman. We became home owners and business owners all at once but we are looking forward to everything our future holds!
