Once upon a time, in a magical place called Syracuse University, two naive freshman kids met for the first time. Eleven years later, here we are. Sam and Lauren first met each other within the first two months of their freshman years at Syracuse in the fall of 2014. What started as your cliched first college relationship eventually turned into a love that will last a lifetime. The early relationship was like any college romance. Parties, lunch dates on the quad, and making time for each other amid rigorous academic demands. Very quickly, Lauren and Sam's world's merged, as Lauren's friends became Sam's and Sam's became Lauren's. Sam met the Woolhiser family on a pit stop in Horseheads as the two road tripped to Pittsburgh, just one month into their relationship. Lauren met the Jellinek crew in Doylestown a month later for New Years Eve. From there, freshman year turned into sophomore year and things started to get real. Sam interned in Wisconsin for a baseball team that summer and Lauren visited, braving the journey halfway across the country. One year together quickly became two and that junior year in 2015-2016 saw the two study abroad together, Sam in London while Lauren was in Dublin. What would normally be a strain on any relationship, being apart in different countries, turned out to be a keystone moment in their journey as their shared passion for travel took flight and the two took many a weekend jaunt, with Sam planning the overarching journeys while Lauren handled the specifics. As they say, if you can travel together, you can do anything together. Coming back stateside for their senior years, the future became real. Sam pursued his dream of broadcasting baseball while Lauren dove headfirst into her pursuit of becoming a doctor. After graduating, the two withstood a full year-and-a-half of long distance before Sam moved back to Syracuse to be with Lauren as she started medical school while Sam began broadcasting with Colgate University. Less than two weeks after starting medical school, with Lauren stressed, Sam jokingly said, "If a dog would make you feel better, we should get a puppy." Lauren pounced, and after a two hour roundtrip journey, a shepoundski named Finn completed their little family. Navigating medical school and the broadcasting field together only strengthened Lauren and Sam's bond. Going through the highs and lows, trials and tribulations, they relied on each other to pick them up when they were down. Their story took a delightful turn as after years of Sam leaving for baseball season, Lauren landed her residency at Lehigh Valley Health Network as Sam began broadcasting for his childhood team, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. Wildly, nine years had flown by and the relationship between the two had morphed from a college romance to true best friends, taking on the world together. With the future in clear sight, Sam proposed to Lauren on December 30, 2023, along the path the two always walk Finn. Lauren and Sam chose Glenora Wine Cellars on Seneca Lake as their venue as the two have spent many a summer night in the Woolhiser lake house on the very same lake, right down the road. Lauren and Sam are excited to celebrate with everyone as they start the beginning of their next journey together!
