The Mexican state of Quintana Roo where we'll be going is generally very safe. Just like any other place you travel, you'll always want to be aware of your surroundings. Wakax and most other properties have security gates in which you'll need to show ID in order to enter the property. There may be a few police check points along the highway but standardly you just drive right through. One particular situation we recommend you avoid is stopping at stores while you have luggage in your car.
Use bottled water for everything! Do not drink any water that comes out of the tap. Even for brushing your teeth. There are bottles of water in the hotel rooms at Wakax. We recommend grabbing a few extra bottles at the grocery store or gas station when able. Always better to be safe than sorry.
Mexico uses pesos. It's helpful to have cash + small bills when tipping service staff. Note that after Covid, banks don't standardly keep foreign currency onsite so you'll need to order some through your bank ahead of time or use the ATM once you arrive.
Please reference our schedule page for activities the day before the wedding. We'd love for you to join for as much as you can!
We'll have to find out...
