Lauren and Peter both attended Brookdale Community College after high school. They met on their first day at the Honor's program orientation. She was the first person he spoke to at college. What was a serendipitous meeting in her mind was a deliberate decision on his part that set in motion their love story.
Bonding over group study sessions and strange professors, Lauren and Peter became quick friends. It blossomed into something more when they and the rest of the honor's cohort escaped to the Catskills for a weekend getaway. On a clear night in February, when everyone else had retired inside because of the cold, Lauren and Peter shared their first kiss under the stars.
Lauren and Peter spent a decade growing, learning about each other, and just being each other's best friend. After 10 years, Lauren knew "the question" was coming eventually, though he still managed to surprise her on a random Wednesday. He came home from work the same day he picked up the ring and, being unable to keep a secret for too long, quickly got down on one knee. But, instead of pulling out the ring, he pulled up an adoption ad for a kitten and asked with all sincerity, "Will you adopt a cat with me?" She rolled her eyes but laughed out a "yes". Before she could start feeling too disappointed about his mock proposal, he pulled out the ring and asked her the real question. Oh, and they got a cat too.
