Our Story

First date Mikuni's August 26th, 2016

It all started with a mutual right swipe on the Bumble dating app and a first date at Mikuni's, my favorite sushi spot. On first meeting I learned Michael was a nice guy, perfect gentleman, and awesome snowboarder, which I thought was amazing. Luckily for Mike, I decided to text him 6 days later after not hearing from him, this was unusual for me after a first date. Apparently he received some questionable dating advice and was playing it a little too cool. Due to busy schedules and travel plans we had a slow start which allowed us time to thoroughly get to know each other and learn that we had enough in common to start something real. After initial dating things really started to blossom and we started planning how to be in the same place more regularly without the commute. As I transitioned to work in Roseville and life in Lincoln after a year of dating, it was an adjustment, but Mike was always supportive and loving. We have pushed each other and grown, Mike learned to scuba dive for me and I have become a better skier and more laid back because of him. He taught me to trust and love again. We have been on several adventures together so far including ski trips, San Diego, Florida, Orange County, Roatan, Texas, Pullman, Park City, and Santa Barbra to name a few yet this will be our biggest adventure to date. We are both so excited for our big day and the next chapter in our lives.

The Proposal

December 10th, 2017

Michael has a lot of great qualities but being sneaky and pulling off a surprise is not one of them. We had talked about getting engaged and a wedding but he wanted to surprise me. After I figured it out he called me a detective and I called him Captain Obvious ;) Leading up to the proposal weekend I had it all figured out except the exact WHEN. He wanted to have a special weekend in the Sierras and decided on Walley's hot springs, a nice little resort we had been to before in Gardnerville, Nevada. Saturday morning started with a calamity of errors, late start for the trip, a speeding ticket, and a yellow dog running through a gas station store as I chased her. First we had a great time in Virginia City with his aunt, uncle and our yellow lab, Lucy. All the while I was waiting for and anticipating a proposal. We had a yummy, amazing dinner, no proposal, at this point I was starting to wonder if I got it wrong or he changed his mind. Sunday morning he was excited and ready and I was annoyed. His plan this whole time was a beautiful morning proposal in the meadow with steam coming off the grass and mountains in the background. He asked me for my phone and was attempting to set it up in video mode to capture popping the BIG question. Of course I said YES, and FINALLY!!! We then were able to enjoy breakfast, tell our family and friends, and a dip in the hot springs. I may or may not have forgotten my swimsuit bottoms and had to wear Mike's XL basketball shorts. On the way home we had a fun time struggling to find the perfect Christmas tree and carefully drove home with it tied on top of my car. We love our story and laugh about the it every time we tell it, or at least I do :)
