This western Malibu beach is only accessible via a steep gravelly path from a paid parking lot, so make sure to wear appropriate shoes. There are no lifeguards or other facilities, but it’s the perfect spot to spread your towel and watch the waves crash onto the rocks-just watch out for high tide.
The paved Winding Way trail heads uphill for 0.75 miles along, gaining about 200 feet before the trail starts going downhill to join Escondido Canyon Park. It winds through flowering meadows, fields of mustard and fennel, hopping across a small creek that runs through Escondido Canyon. Among all the activities in Malibu, Escondido Falls is one of the most popular hikes in the Santa Monica Mountains, so it can get busy. If you want to beat the crowds, come early in the morning.
The Getty Villa is the most scenic museum in Southern California that sits atop the Malibu Mountains overlooking the Pacific Ocean. There are more than 1,200 artifacts on display. Most date to the period between 6,500 BC – 500 AD and cover a wide range of themes including the Trojan War and ancient Greek Gods and Goddesses. The Adamson House at Malibu Lagoon State Beach overlooks the Malibu Pier and Surfrider Beach. This bluff top showplace of Malibu historical artifacts is a California Historical Landmark that is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The historic home of Merritt Huntley Adamson, a local rancher, is set along the beautiful Malibu coastline and is home to a museum that explores the history of Malibu.
Neptune's Net Seafood has been serving fresh seafood from its Malibu Beach location since 1958. Neptune has been a setting for numerous movies, including Point Break and the Fast and the Furious. While the deep-fried seafood here is tasty enough, Neptune’s Net is worth a visit for its postcard-perfect location.
