About Bobbio

The Valla family has called Val Trebbia home since the 1600s. Lauren's father, Antonio, grew up here, and in 1937 his grandfather built our family home in Bobbio, where Lauren has spent every summer since birth, and where Mario fell in love at first visit! We are thrilled to welcome you to our home and share the beauty of Bobbio with you. Below are our top recommendations.

Saturday Market Day

Every Saturday morning, starting as early as 7am, vendors from across the valley set up shop throughout the town in the continuation of a 1,000-year-old custom. Enjoy a walk, shop, and grab a lunchtime aperitivo!

Swim in the River Trebbia

There are wonderful river swimming spots either beneath Ponte Gobbo or at Berlina Beach, a five minute drive away. Please reach out before you visit to discuss the safest areas for swimming. Alternatively, there is a swimming pool and clay tennis courts at the Campo Sportivo.

Walk Across Ponte Gobbo

Originally built by the Romans, the bridge spans the river Trebbia and is renowned for its irregular, humpbacked arches and theory that it is the background of the Mona Lisa.

Visit San Colombano Abbey

The Abbey was founded in 614 by the Irish monk Columbanus and was one of the main spiritual and religious centers of Italy. The monks transcribed or translated many ancient texts, including Plato's and Aristotle's works in the original Greek.
