Travel Note
We put together a short document on travel tips, cultural norms, foods to try, and other info you might find helpful for visiting.
Flight
Flying into Oslo airport is the closest and likely best option for getting to wedding. From there, you can take a train into the city. If you are flying from the US, consider checking prices at other large international hubs such as London, Copenhagen, Paris, etc. Often you can get a plane ticket from other countries in Europe to Oslo for less than $200, so shop around for what makes the most sense for your budget and timeline. Do keep in mind that you will need to clear customs and baggage claim AND check back in through security if purchasing two different journeys in Europe, allow enough time to transit for your layover. Stopovers in Iceland or multi city flights (Open Jaw tickets such as flying from the US to London, but returning from Oslo to the US, with a separate one way ticket between London and Oslo) have become increasingly popular and affordable and are something to consider as well. Other larger airports in Norway to check are Bergen and Trondheim - there are beautiful 6-7 hour scenic train journeys from those cities to Oslo. Sites like Going, Skyscanner, Hopper, and Google flights can show you flash sales and date grids of the cheapest travel days.
Train
Easy train from Oslo airport to the city center. You can also take the slightly cheaper regional train into the city, but this one is more user friendly/faster. Note that all train and tram doors do not open automatically in Oslo, look for the button to press. If you are staying at Scandic Victoria, the closest train station is Nationaltheatret and it's about a 10 minute mostly flat walk through the city center.
Hotel
We stayed here on our visit in 2023, it's a comfortable mid-range hotel in a convenient location for those wishing to be central and explore the city. Good buffet breakfast included! Guests can stay here under our room block for 1,990 nok (~$187/night) for 2 between June 11-June 13. Our shuttle bus for the wedding and reception will pick up and drop off from here. We've held enough rooms for our out of town guests. If you want to take advantage of this rate, please do so asap - they will release the remaining held rooms in April. Guests wishing to stay at the hotel longer than the two nights can request to connect their stay by emailing victoriaoslo@scandichotels.com after booking their additional nights separately. We’re hearing the website is being a bit tricky if you try to book multiple rooms or a longer period, rest assured there are plenty of rooms at this point - it’s likely a tech issue and we encourage you to email the hotel email above if you run into issues so they can help. There is a pharmacy "Apotek" across the side-street if needed and a small grocery store "Joker" next door plus small fridges in the rooms as you meal plan.

There are plenty of other hotels, hostels, and airbnbs in Oslo depending on your budget and preferences. You should check public transportation routes and hours to ensure you'll be able to get back after the late night events, many routes close early.
