Kyle and I met at a college, we both never thought we'd end up at. Through friends, I met Kyle at one of his infamous "functions", essentially a small house party. The first time I showed, I was a second semester freshman, scared to talk, and extremely shy. Kyle saw this and immediately not only respected that I was a bit quiet and out of my element, but ensured that I was taken care of each and every time I showed up. Even when I was sitting quietly in a corner, Kyle would be the only one to make eye contact with me, check up on me, and ensure I was having a good time. His hospitality spoke volumes and became one of the first things I fell in love with. In fact, his hospitality is exactly what led to us being together.. One eventful night a couple years later, my roommates locked me out of the house accidentally and Kyle opened up his apartment to me at 2am, instead of letting me sleep in my car. That became the first of many sleepovers and after months (6 to be exact) of having conversations of our futures, compromises, and me moving to Houston, it was settled.. We were FINALLY official. However, before we could move in together, we tested our relationship with almost 7 months of long distance. This was a trying time, but made our relationship as strong as ever. Now, as we've overcomed long distance, disagreements, made sacrifices and compromises, and have lived together, I have no doubt in my mind that we are ready for marriage. I am truly so honored, blessed, and privileged that I get to marry my best friend. May 31, 2025 cannot come fast enough.
I first saw Lauren sitting on my couch, all alone at one of my functions. She didn’t have a drink in hand and she didn’t seem to be having a good time. I sat down on the arm of the couch and kept her company the rest of the party. This became a tradition for the rest of the functions I would throw. Get her a drink, talk to her, grow closer. One night, she got locked out of her apartment and used it as an excuse for a sleepover. One sleepover turned into another, turned into dinner and drinks, turned into love. This time was filled with drunk nights at Lupe, game nights, and an interesting night at Seismique. After I graduated we had to have the difficult conversation of whether she would move back to houston with me. We kept up a very challenging long distance relationship and eventually she made it home. We have gone through several challenges over the last 3 years but each challenge or argument or miscommunication that we get through makes me realize that this is the woman I choose to love every day. The woman I know I can make it through the fire with. I’m so excited to call her my wife, I already do, I just can’t wait for it to be official.
