Our Happily Ever After Ceremony & Reception!

Lauren and Joseph eloped in September 2025 and are excited to celebrate their marriage with their loved ones at their Happily Ever After Ceremony and Reception!

How Lauren & Joseph Met

Lauren and Joseph met during on-the-job training at the Merck vaccine manufacturing plant in Durham. Lauren had just made a major life change and moved from her home state of NJ to NC for her first job. Joseph had just graduated with his Master's degree from NC State University and had started his first job a few months ago. They were both assigned a mandatory in-person aseptic gowning training. Joseph dreads attending, having never dressed for a clean room before, but spots a tall, beautiful girl with curly hair and round glasses typing furiously. Amused by her intensity, he thinks maybe this training won’t be so bad. When introductions begin, the curly-haired girl—Lauren—jumps in first, which Joseph finds hilarious. Later, a surprise test on gowning order catches everyone off guard. Joseph, called early, fails spectacularly, missing the first question and dooming the rest. After class, he and Lauren leave together, and he breaks the ice by joking about his failure. Though she aced it, Lauren plays along, and they bond over their New Jersey roots and rival colleges. Wanting more time, Joseph pretends to grab something from his car and follows her out. He learns she’s in a leadership development program, which he mistakes for HR instead of engineering. Despite her mask, Joseph feels a spark and introduces himself, letting her call him Joey since she thinks it suits him better. He doesn't know why, but something inside him tells him this is different. Meeting someone from back home feels like a small miracle to Lauren, in the middle of such a big life change. Joseph is warm and easy to talk to, and their conversation feels like a comforting hug, though fresh out of a long-term relationship, she isn’t ready for romance. Before parting, Joseph offers a tour of his labs, which she accepts, assuming he’s just being nice. The following week, after the tour, he invites her to hang out. When he suggests hiking, the idea of being alone in the woods with someone she barely knows makes her uncomfortable. She suggests they go to the mall instead. And so, their story begins—two strangers, meeting in the most unexpected place, finding a connection amid sterile gowns and failed tests. For now, they walk together, sharing smiles and stories, unknowingly stepping onto the path of a love story.

Lauren & Joseph's First Date

Lauren declined Joseph's offer for a ride to their first date to Top Golf, not ready to reveal where she lives. When they arrive, the long wait seems like another red flag since Joseph has not made a reservation. Joseph suggests a trip to Marshalls while they wait. Lauren lights up, she loves Marshalls, as they shop for his new apartment he had just moved into, after ending a long-term relationship, laughing and enjoying the time. At Top Golf, Lauren feels butterflies when Joseph adjusts her grip on the club, a moment that changes something for her. She decides to stop fighting their connection. Afterward, they share pizza at Brixx, where Joseph even lets her take leftovers home, rare for the foodie who usually clears his plate. They wander Brier Creek shopping center, smelling candles and laughing together. The night ends at a gas station, standing quietly as Joseph fills his truck. In that silence, staring at each other, Lauren knows their connection is special. From then on, she let things unfold naturally. That date leads to the next, and soon Joseph and Lauren are building a life and future together.

Lauren & Joseph's Proposal

Joseph begins his secret proposal planning by visiting a jeweler to reset his grandmother’s ring into an engagement ring for Lauren, since she was so special to them both. When told the diamond was too fragile due to a crack, he has it made into a necklace instead. Knowing Lauren’s taste from their Costco trips, he chooses a ring in her style but even more elegant. He also creates a photo book of their relationship, planning to propose when she reaches the final page, knowing how much she loves photos. His first plan is a stargazing trip to western NC, but Hurricane Helene disrupts that idea. Plan B becomes a beach trip to Isle of Palms, SC—perfect since palm trees are Lauren’s favorite. He tells Lauren that he is planning a special trip. Though her friends suspect a proposal, she is not convinced it will happen, especially since it didn’t happen on their Ocracoke trip the year before. After a 3.5-hour drive, they arrive in Charleston, a city she’d always dreamed of seeing. She is ecstatic, as they explore shops and art boutiques, stopping at an Irish pub decorated with dollar bills, then head to their oceanfront condo. That evening they play Monopoly—her first time—and she wins, a shocking victory over fiercely competitive Joey. She still has no clue what is really happening. The next morning, Joseph rushes her to see the sunrise. He surprises her with the photo book, and as she flips through, she grows emotional. On the last page is a photo of her hand with a bruise and the words, “I think you know what comes next.” Before she can process this, Joseph pulls out the ring and asks, “Will you marry me?” Stunned and overjoyed, she responds with a resounding YES! Then he gives her the necklace made from his grandmother’s diamond, making her feel that his grandmother is with them. They call their parents and family, share the news, and spend the rest of the day on the beach collecting seashells under perfect skies. It was a day filled with love, thoughtfulness, and joy, a day they’ll always remember.
