If you only go to one museum in Houston, make it this one. The Menil Collection is a free museum and neighborhood of art spanning 30 acres. The surrealist collection and the Rothko chapel are especially unique.

The MFAH is one of the largest museums in the world and, in the U.S., second only to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in terms of square feet of gallery space. Its $1.7 billion endowment is the fourth largest in the country. Check out the sculpture garden as well.

We recommend walking along the path on Heights Blvd and checking out some of the neighborhood side streets. Some neighborhood favorites are Local Foods, Postino, Dish Society, EQ Heights, and the Kolache Shoppe.
