Jon made a mean creme brûlée. Lauren made a mean study buddy (literally). On October 26, 2013, Lauren won a Halloween contest and Jon won Lauren’s heart (with a little bit of tequila). After being forced to be in such close proximity throughout medical school, falling in love was inevitable. Blinded by love, Lauren convinced Jon to embrace the winters and move to Chicago with her, where they now both work as residents.

On August 29, 2018, while Lauren worked a grueling 28 hour shift in the Neurosciences ICU, Jon snuck off to Oklahoma to pick up the world’s sweetest puppy - Miley. The next day, with the help of Lauren’s parents, Jon tried to convince a post-call Lauren to leave the house to meet him in Washington Square Park. For those of you who know Lauren, she never does anything she doesn’t want to, so instead she stayed in her pajamas in bed. 36 hours after her last shower, Jon showed up in their apartment with Lauren’s family in tow, and presented Lauren with the most adorable dog in the world. At first, Lauren thought this was a joke or that Jon stole a puppy. To her surprise, this was no joke. Jon showed Lauren the tag on Miley’s collar which said “Marry Me?”. Lauren immediately said yes, but only if she got to keep the dog. Pro tip boys, if you want to guarantee a yes to your proposal, propose with a miniature Australian Shepherd - it works every time. Lauren, Jon, and Miley cannot wait to make things official on September 5, 2021.
