Jay and Lauren met in early 2011 when they were both working as bright-eyed, bleeding heart outreach counselors with homeless youth in San Francisco. They were running a group called "Yearn to Learn" that was aimed at getting homeless kids to re-engage with their education, despite living on the streets. Jay wooed Lauren with mini-Cliff bars from the snack closet and cupcakes from staff meetings before asking her to take a lunch break with him one day. They got iced coffees in the Tenderloin and then had their first date on a Sunday in Golden Gate Park. It was a love that started off with bike trips around the Mission, house parties in the Haight, and afternoons at Dolores Park. Since 2011, Jay and Lauren have moved houses and across county lines, camped and roadtripped all over Northern CA, Pacific Northwest, and the Grand Tetons, journeyed to South America, earned too many graduate degrees, bought a beautiful house, and welcomed their sweet baby boy, Grant. And in those 12 years together, they've grown, become each others' family, started their own, and finally decided to put some rings on it.
