We met at work where Gennaro had been the math coach and I had just become the school nurse. He was pretty much known as the "tech guy" around the building so when I was having issues with my printer, he came right in to fix it. Later that night, he sent me a friend request on Facebook and I slid into his messages attempting to flirt. It took him two days to finally ask for my number and we went on our first date on September 30th. He took me to the Grand Vin in Hoboken and then I forced him to go to Karaoke with me for a friend's birthday.
I was ready to pop the big question so I spoke to her parents to ask for her hand in marriage. With their approval, I then informed them that I had already purchased a ring and had decided to propose to her in Barcelona with a photographer that would be there to take our pictures. Leading up to that night of the trip, I was so nervous and hoped that all would go well; however, we ran into a traveler's worst nightmare when they canceled our flight not only once but twice. Without hesitation, we continued to find a way to get to Europe so we could enjoy our cruise. Little did Lauren know, there was a lot more at stake than just a vacation. We finally arrived to Barcelona and the photographer that I had hired had agreed to still meet us at the location I chose even though we were a day late. While walking to Parc de la Ciutadella, I had butterflies in my stomach hoping that nothing else would go wrong in the next hour. As we reached a famous fountain in the park, I noticed the photographer patiently waiting as a "tourist" waiting to capture this special moment in Lauren and I's life. Lauren’s back was turned and I asked her kindly to just turn around. I instantly dropped to one knee and I asked, will you marry me? Without hesitation and tears in her eyes she said yes and gave me a kiss. FINALLY the stress of waiting to propose came to an end. We hung around Ciutadella Park and took photos around the area. Traveling through Europe with my fiancé couldn’t have been any better! Our headaches and stress leading to the trip disappeared and we just enjoyed every moment and took a chance to sit back and just realize how great it would be to continue our lives together.
