Our first date was on a small rocky beach in the middle of a south shore town. We sat in the sand for hours talking about all of our “favorites” and how creepily well matched we were. I remember the shocked look on his face when I named Rocky as my number one movie and followed it by various thrillers. We talked about all the weird dates we’d recently been on. He said I was the first one he’d been on where there was any sort of connection conversationally. I felt that in my soul…dating in your twenties is awkward. The next day Devin asked me on a second date and took me into Boston to the aquarium. For me, the connection was instant. He has a calming way about him that makes you feel safe, even if I had only known him 24 hours. Maybe it was the fact that he was a foot taller than me? Either way. He giggled at my obsession with the penguins. We walked around Faneuil Hall and picked out our favorite foods. It was the perfect day. The biggest thing I noticed was, the two of us have the same exact sense of humor. A dry, sarcastic, almost childlike humor. We could sit in an empty room and laugh for hours. I think that may be our own little love language. Seven years later, I’m still hooked and so very in love with him.
