We met at the University of Oxford while we were both doing our masters degrees. Lauren accidentally crashed a dinner for the rowing team, which Clemens was a part of. Afterwards, we kept running into each other around our college. Now, it seems, we have to be eternally grateful to Kellogg College for bringing us together.
There was no big ask. No diamond. No fanfare. A few weeks later, on an idyllic vacation in Switzerland, we confirmed we would do it within a year. And that was that. Now we have two weddings behind us, and this one lined up.
After months of planning, the Covid-19 pandemic hit and forced us to put the wedding on pause. After postponing our date at least four times, we decided to get legally married at the courthouse in Polling, Germany, and to do the ceremony once the pandemic calmed down. It was a pretty small wedding party of the two betrothed, Clemens' parents, and our dog Bertie. But, unfortunately, Lauren's family wasn't there. But the day was still perfect because we had each other. Almost exactly one year later, the pandemic was still throwing up problems, but we were able to celebrate our wedding in Alabama with Lauren's family and a big, wonderful party. It was perfect, yet – unfortunately, Clemens' family wasn't there. Some may say that three weddings are a bit excessive. To that we would respond that we're very close to our families and want to celebrate this exciting moment in our lives with them. And who doesn’t like a good party?
