In a twist no one saw coming, Ben and Lauren both created dating profiles on Mutual, an LDS dating app. Then, in an even more unlikley twist, they both swiped up, and Ben sent Lauren a message. After a few weeks of texts, they met for their first date on an early-August evening in downtown Salt Lake. The date went a little better than Lauren expected, and significantly better than Ben expected. They talked in the parking lot until the restaurant shut off it’s exterior lights, and finally said goodnight. They saw each other at least once every week from that moment on (with the notable exception of the influenza/pneumonia incident of January 2020). They started dating exclusively in September, introduced their kids in October, and realized they were falling in love sometime in between. Since then, there have been hundreds of miles logged between Lehi and North Salt Lake, and hundreds of hours on the phone for all the days a drive wasn’t possible (which was most of them). Ben proposed on a cold, snowy evening in Park City on February 5, 2020. Lauren couldn’t have planned a more perfect night. They are in awe at the goodness of God for bringing them together, (through a dating app, no less!) and for His continued guidance as they grow together in love for each other and for their five precious daughters. They are ready for a lifetime of happiness, challenges, and choosing each other every day. And above all, they know the best is yet to be.
