We met back in middle school band class -- Alex, of course, on saxophone and Lauren on trombone. We were a grade apart so, like all other awkward middle schoolers, we hardly ever spoke to each other. Near the end of Alex's 8th grade year and Lauren's 7th grade year, we were both selected to participate in a Disneyland Band performance...but we still did not talk to each other. Little did we know at the time that a couple of years later we would be dating, and then eventually getting married! We first started to get to know each other in our high school jazz band class with Mr. Watson and were "Facebook official" by Alex's senior year. A few short months after we started dating, Alex moved away to Texas to attend the University of North Texas and a year later Lauren moved to Santa Barbara to attend the University of California, Santa Barbara. We did long distance for a total of five years -- it was difficult, but we are forever grateful for Skype, Facetime, and even snail mail that we used to send a journal back and forth. Eventually both of our lives landed us in Los Angeles (we were so excited to finally be in the same zip code!) and we even attended the same graduate school, Go Bruins! In January 2018, Alex proposed to Lauren at our high school alma mater as part of a benefit concert - bringing our relationship full circle by including both the place we started dating and the thing that brought us together - music.
