Laurel & Vivek met during their first year of grad school at Manhattan School of Music. By second semester they had formed a piano quartet and were becoming fast friends. They had a mutual love for exploring NYC, attending concerts at Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall, and trying as many Thai and Indian restaurants as their stomachs could handle. It wasn't until after graduation that Laurel & Vivek realized they didn't want to start the next chapter of their lives separately. They became a couple in June 2011. 7 years, three cities, and many houseplants later, Laurel and Vivek are committing themselves to each other as they grow in life and love by uniting in marriage.
On December 31st, 2016, Laurel picked Vivek up from the Tampa airport after they had each spent the Christmas holidays apart. They had decided to come back to Florida to ring in the new year together and were looking forward to a party their friends were throwing. Once they were home, Vivek suggested that they ride their bikes down to a park near their house that overlooks Tampa Bay to watch the final sunset of the year. This was a common activity for them so Laurel didn't think much of it and quickly agreed since the sun was already starting to go down. They hopped on their bikes and arrived at the floating boat dock. The sunset was particularly beautiful that day and they watched the pelicans dive into the water and the waves gently ebb and flow against the shore. As they were watching the final moments of the sun setting below the horizon, Vivek got down on one knee and asked Laurel to marry him. She (obviously) said yes and they embraced and watched the "last light" moments together.
