Laurel and I had 3 years of overlap at NU but never met...even after graduation when we moved to the same neighborhood and waited on the same train platform every day to get to work, our paths never crossed. It took us until 2016 for our first date (courtesy of Coffee Meets Bagel). A mutual friend from Northwestern was in town, so we all met up, had a drink downtown, then watched a Cats victory at Ryan Field the next day. Northwestern has been a special thread through our relationship, including many historic highlights - our first trip as a couple was to watch the Cats play in the NCAA mens basketball tournament (we made the local news!) and in 2018 we drove to Indianapolis to watch NU in their first Big Ten Football Championship Game. In August 2019, I drove to the same parking garage that we parked in for that first game, walked out to the Lakefill with Laurel and asked her to marry me. Fittingly, we have special gameday outfits now - on the day of our engagement we stopped in Evanston and picked out matching 'Somebody from Northwestern Loves Me' T-shirts (see photos page!).
