After separately moving to California from the Midwest (Laurel from Athens, OH after graduating in 2015; Evan from Cleveland, OH in 2018 to take an exciting new job), we were both enjoying life in San Francisco's Russian Hill neighborhood. All it took to realize we lived a block apart was a global pandemic… and a match on Hinge! Our first date was at Macondray, a bar halfway between our apartments, and it was the 2020 equivalent of love at first sight: love at first lowering of the mask. We hit it off over frosé and French fries until the bar politely asked us to leave at closing time. That was the start of a whirlwind romance and many pandemic-friendly dates (read: wine tasting in Napa, hiking in Marin, oyster-shucking by the water in Tomales Bay, and lots of quality time in our apartments). In the years that followed, we moved in together down the street from where we met, finally got *out* of San Francisco, and made so many memories with each other's family and friends. It became clear very quickly that we'd found our person. Evan popped the question in January 2023. He planned to propose during a weekend hike, but when the ring arrived one Wednesday morning he realized it'd be much more fitting (and much less likely that he’d trip and accidentally launch the ring off a cliff) to ask Laurel in the apartment instead. Laurel came home from a Barry’s class to find candles, flowers, a playlist of favorite songs, and Evan with the ring, on one knee. Laurel was shocked and lovingly said yes! We ended the night at Macondray to celebrate with champagne, and - just like our first date on a Wednesday in 2020 - frosé and French fries. We are so excited to bring our favorite people in the world to one of our favorite places, Napa Valley.
