The day I first met Matt, I needed to set up insurance for the first time, and knew nothing about it, other than the fact that I needed it. I remember my mom telling me to go to DeJong’s and ask to see Matt. To be honest, I wasn’t interested in making the trip to the office to meet “Matt”, and preferred to set up my insurance via email. Boy, am I glad I ended up going to the office that day. Of course I was smitten by his handsomeness, but what I also noticed first about Matt was his genuine kindness. After that first visit, I knew I would be making appointments to see him for any changes I might need to make. I vividly remember changing my outfit multiple times before my second appointment. You know you like someone when you do this. When Matt left DeJong’s, I was sad. It was only a short time after Matt left that I began working there as the receptionist. Little did I know he would be coming back to work there a few months later! I remember the moment when I heard that he would be coming back. I was in BC at the time when my mom sent me a text that read “guess who’s coming back to work at DeJong’s!” When I read that sentence, I could feel a smile take over my face, which my step-sister, Scarlet, can attest to. She gave me a strange look and asked what I was smiling at, and I gave her the run-down on this Matt character. Matt and I developed a friendship quickly (of course), but after a slightly awkward “first-date” at the tattoo convention, followed by our eventfully romantic staff bowling night, I knew I was absolutely head over heels for him. Our relationship grew fast, and before I knew it we were living together, working two jobs together, and talking about our plans for a life together. Now, almost 2 years later, I am sitting here holding our baby girl in my belly, admiring my perfect engagement ring, and planning the beautiful day where we will officially become a family. Like I said before, boy, am I glad I ended up going into the office that day.

I remember it was on a Friday while at work that I met Laura. I'd been having a bad day and Laura's mom came to my office and asked if I could help Laura with her new car insurance. I glared a bit, as if I didn't already have a lot of work to do. I said "suuuurrrrrrre" which, in hindsight, ended up being the best decision of my life. I tactically made her wait a few minutes and then told her to come on it. As soon as she walked in my jaw dropped! I quickly sat up straight and greeted her with a casual (but cool) smile. During the meeting, I don't even remember what we talked about, or what I sold her (what a great salesman) - I just remember thinking how beautiful she was. After that transaction, I remember each and every time she would come back to the office for some insurance related matter. My colleagues would always bug me when she got to the office, knowing I had a 'thing' for her... I would think to myself, who visits their insurance broker THIS much (not that I was complaining)? Fast forward a year, I left that job and ended up coming back to work there 9 months later. To my surprise, Laura was working as reception at that office! It was that first day back that I knew I wouldn't get any work done (sorry Tim). We got to know each other a lot better, very quickly. Just a few short months later, we were working two jobs together, living together and sharing amazing new experiences together. I knew I wanted to marry this girl and I wouldn't have written our story any other way.
