Ugo and Laura first crossed paths at Bicester Village in 2021 while both were working for a recruitment agency. Ugo held the role of Director of Operations in the office, responsible for assigning temporary retail shifts to employees. Laura, meanwhile, was employed as a temporary sales assistant, receiving her shift allocations from Ugo electronically. For several weeks, their interactions remained strictly professional, and they had never met in person until an unexpected work emergency brought them together. Laura was managing a small pop-up store when a fellow temporary sales assistant fainted in the morning, leaving her to run the store alone for the rest of the day, from 9am to 9pm. As the customer stock was stored off-site, and Laura was unable to take any rest breaks, Ugo was tasked with finding cover. However, due to the hectic nature of retail and the lack of available staff, he had no choice but to attend the store himself and assist Laura directly. Having recently graduated from university and feeling unfulfilled in a job that didn’t align with her career aspirations, Laura’s fatigue and discontent was evident. Wanting to lift her spirits, Ugo decided to do something to make her smile. At the end of their long shift, he asked if she’d like to join him and his friends for a paintballing session that weekend. Despite the cold and rainy October weather, Laura surprisingly agreed. After a day filled with painful paintballs and plenty of bruises, their bond began to blossom. Ugo and Laura supported each other through career changes, personal challenges and everyday life—until two years later, in December 2023, they became engaged. ♡
