How We Met

December 2007

Laura met Josh her senior year of high school at a winter-weekend-away in Tahoe to celebrate her best friend's (now maid-of-honor) birthday. Josh came to the birthday party and later found out that Laura was the very attractive sister of his good friend, Alex. Josh and Laura flirted all night, having a snowball fight and racing sledges. They both fell for each other that night. They proceeded to casually date for a short time afterwards but broke it off as Laura prepared to leave for college that fall. Josh always felt like Laura was the "one that got away," and for several years, they stayed in touch. Both Laura and Josh felt that if it was meant to be, it would work out in the future. Finally, after 3 years, Laura and Josh reconnected at the Cubbler's summer party beneath the stars. Laura and Josh have dated for 9 years since.

How We Knew

October 2015

Laura does a lot of volunteer work with Engineers Without Borders and works on a clean water project for a community in western Kenya. In 2015, Laura planned to travel to Kenya to build the project she had been working on. Josh insisted that he travel with her, so they set out on a big adventure together. Laura knew after the month long journey of hard work, hot and humid conditions, no running water or electricity, and questionable driving practices; that their relationship could survive anything. Josh was just as committed to her, as she was to helping the community in Kenya. Afterwards, they vacationed in Zanzibar and fell deeper in love. The couple traveled to Kenya and volunteered again in 2019.

The Proposal

April 2018

Laura had just taken the Professional Engineer's exam the day before and Josh had planned a BBQ on their recently purchased property to celebrate. Little did Laura know that all of their friends and family were coming to celebrate their engagement as well. Josh insisted they take a walk to the top of the property to look at the view before everyone arrived. Per Josh's usual tricks, he convinced Laura that he was setting up his phone to take a photo of them with the view of the property in the background. Turns out, he was setting up the phone to film the entire proposal. Laura was then totally surprised when Josh broke the photo pose and got down on one knee.

The Wedding

June 2020

Laura and Josh are so excited to be getting married on their property in Cool, CA, so they can share its beauty with all of their friends and family. The ceremony will take place where Laura and Josh plan to build their first home. Laura and Josh hope to celebrate with you at the reception following the ceremony but are monitoring the COVID-19 situation to make sure it will be safe to do so. The reception will take place either on the property or just in front of the property at the historic Bayley Barn. Check back for updates!
