Since this was Laura's first time in Pittsburgh, Jeff was in charge of planning the sites. We already went to the Penguins game the night before, Jeff suggested we check out The Incline, a historic landmark that brings you up to the view of Mt. Washington. Little did Laura know, Jeff had the whole night already planned out. We took in the beautiful view of the cityscape and the confluence of the Three Rivers. As we enjoyed the lit skyline Jeff turned to Laura and said, "I would officially like to call Dibs." Confused as to what he said she turned to find him on his left knee (he’d like to point out, ‘like a knight’), with a ring in hand. Totally taken back with what was happening it took Laura a minute to understand what was going on. When it finally registered, she obviously said ‘YES.’ Jeff had thought of everything, even had a photographer there to capture the moment (you can view these in the gallery section of the website). After FaceTiming our family to share the news, we then walked across the street to a restaurant, Monterey Bay Fish Grotto which sits on the top floors of a high rise on Mt. Washington overlooking the city. We had celebratory Old Fashions and listened to a live band before heading up to dinner where we were then escorted to the best window table with the most incredible view. Interrupting him reading the specials, we quickly made friends with our waiter who went above and beyond to celebrate the night. To cap it off he brought us drinks our friend from Denver, Nate, ordered us from afar. The gifts kept coming when we were even surprised with a gift bag and champagne, from Andrea, to celebrate once we returned to the hotel. Excited to celebrate with Jeff’s dad; Marty, and Mary Sue for a night before our road trip back to Colorado Laura didn’t know Jeff had one last surprise. He coordinated with his brother; Kevin, his wife; Kelly, and their three kids, Sean, Adam, and Riley to drive three hours to meet us, (the day Kevin ran a marathon…). The kids had made posters, excited and eager to start calling Miss Laura, “Aunt Laura.” They officially get to as of November 4th, 2023.
