Laura is the Curator of Paleontology at this museum. It may be called a children's museum, but we promise that all ages are welcome and there is something for everyone here! From real fossils and artifacts to rare pop culture memorabilia, this museum is full of fun and discovery. Let us know if you plan to visit so Laura can get you some tickets and set you up with a special behind-the-scenes tour of the paleo lab and collections!
Courtland worked here as an animal keeper when we first moved to Indianapolis. See if you can find Courtland's favorite, the red panda, and Laura's favorite, the Orinoco crocodile! You can also see orangutans, tigers, elephants, dolphins, cheetahs, walruses, and much more!
We love coming here to walk around the reservoir and see what birds we can spot! We highly recommend starting at the Ornithology Center to meet some cute animal ambassadors and learn about all the critters you might see on your hike. Double-crested cormorants, white pelicans, and even bald eagles love to hang out here. When you're visiting, also keep an ear out for the distinctive call of the sandhill cranes! They'll be passing through our area this time of year as they migrate south for the winter. The cacophony of thousands of them trumpeting is a sound you never forget!
Newfields boasts a stunning display of fine art as well as gorgeous outdoor gardens, accessible year-round. In May 2025, Newfields opened a temporary exhibit called "Connections: Land, Water, Sky" in their LUME multi-sensory experience hall. As it just so happens, "Connections" highlights Aboriginal art and artists from Australia's indigenous peoples. Talk about apt! This exhibit is slated to stay up through early 2026, so you will absolutely have a chance to check it out during our wedding weekend. Additionally, for the month of October, Newfields will be holding their annual "Harvest Nights" outdoor event, full of spookiness and fun. We have been to Harvest Nights several years now, and we've had a blast every time!
