This is an annual tradition unique to Houston that happens to take place on the day after our celebration! Before we head out for the evening, there is plenty of time to take in all of the crazy cars featured during this free event. The starting point is a short walk (.07 miles) from the Hyatt Regency. There is a pre-party for the parade starting at 11am, and the parade itself begins at 2pm. See the official website for more details.
This brewery boasts the oldest craft brew in Texas along with gorgeous views of downtown from the beer garden. You can watch the Astros on the big screen while enjoying traditional German beer hall treats. They also have art cars themed after their delicious varieties of beer!
Twilight Epiphany, the James Turrell Skyspace at the Suzanne Deal Booth Centennial Pavilion, is Houston’s most iconic public artwork. Gifted to Rice by alumna Suzanne Deal Booth, who worked for the artist while in graduate school at New York University and helped him build the first Skyspace at MoMA PS1 in New York, Twilight Epiphany is the 73rd in Turrell’s groundbreaking series of light-filled architectural spaces. While you can visit the piece any time during the day, the true magic begins in the 40-minute leadup to sunrise and 10 minutes before sunset when a series of LED lights project a seamlessly blending, hypnotic array of hues onto the knife-edge ceiling. The sequence of colors—which moves from cerulean blues and bruised periwinkles to brilliant tangerines, deep pinks, and sage greens—changes throughout the year as the length and luminosity of dawns and dusks vary with the seasons.
This place is a laid back, drinker's treat. The real treasure is the food truck, Tierra Caliente. They have breakfast and regular tacos that will blow your mind, and go nicely with a cold one. Don't go crazy with the green sauce unless you are VERY serious about spice. The Menil Collection is located nearby if you want to tack on another fun Montrose activity.
This is one of our favorite cultural spots in the city. There are several amazing museums in the area to explore, though I highly recommend the Museum of Natural Science, Museum of Fine Arts, and the Holocaust Museum. You can always invest in a city pass to see as much as possible while you're in town. If you have kiddos to entertain, Houston also has an incredible Children's Museum. Be sure to roam around adjacent Hermann Park while you're here!
Located in EaDo, this collection of mural art is visiually stunning and representative of Houston's diverse art scene. Take a walk around the neighborhood to see tributes to UGK, George Floyd, and all things HTX. Check out nearby Tout Suite or Brass Tacks for coffee, or wander over to 8th Wonder or True Anomaly for a cold craft beer! This is located near our Sunday Friends' brunch location.
This new downtown spot has plenty to offer the out of town guest and Houston resident alike. The rooftop garden is a wonderful way to see the city and get your steps in, while the food hall offers a large variety of options to enjoy. This is the place you want to post on your instagram and make everyone jealous of your time in HTX.
