Chesley and I met in Columbus, Georgia in Spring 2017. At the time, I was interning at Hardaway High School while wrapping up my Bachelor's, and Chesley was working as a General Manager at Sonic. After a long day teaching, I had a major craving for tater tots. Sonic was so busy that evening that much to my surprise, the cute GM delivered my tots to me. It was love at first sight... HA! Just kidding. Chesley did manage at Sonic and I did have long days of teaching, but we actually met when another teacher invited me to join his co-ed soccer team. Chesley was our midfield speed and I was the "cherry-picker" forward who provided the advantage of earning two points for each goal (the league really needed more women).
At first, Chesley and I didn't pay each other much mind. But after a few victory drinks-after-the-game outings with the team, we got to know each other a bit better and decided to go on our first date: an Atlanta Braves baseball game on "Cinco de mayo." We dated for the next year while he continued to work in Columbus and I earned my Master's degree in Auburn. Once I finished my degree, I decided to return to my home school district, Williamson County in Tennessee to start my teacher career. I invited Chesley to join me, and he faithfully followed me as I started the journey to my dream career.
A couple years and what we thought was the beginning of the end of the pandemic, Chesley proposed to me in Nashville on the pedestrian bridge on November 28, 2020. Now, we are officially recognizing our commitment to each other on May 7, 2022. Come hell, high water, or another variant, we're getting hitched!
