In 2024, Laura moved to Peoria, IL from Detroit, MI. She was ready to be a single woman. To have cats. To drive to Chicago or Saint Louis every weekend, have all the hobbies, and to be the coolest aunt ever. No more stinking men! Charley was also pretty determined to be single and childless, after feeling quite jaded by the dating scene. He wanted to get good at his hobbies and develop his career, buy a farm and be the coolest funcle, and build a retreat for the family as his legacy. One evening, Facebook sent a notification “someone on your friends list has a crush!” Laura, being ever the scientist, wanted to know who it was, so she clicked the link and signed up for Facebook Dating. While she never learned who that person was that had the crush, she did find a picture of what seemed to be the sweetest guy ever (thanks to Jin, Charley’s sister, for taking the picture). They matched and Charley soon struck up a conversation with the charming, suave opening message of "Hey, how's your Friday going?" They quickly established what seemed to be a good rapport but Laura was cautious and told him “we can be friends.” About a week later, they spontaneously got together for a movie as a friendly not-a-date. Laura figured a friendly hangout at Charley’s parents’ house should be safe enough. Charley made risotto with vegetables from his garden and gave her his homemade cherry wine. It didn’t take too long for Laura to notice that she felt uncharacteristically relaxed around him. Before the movie ended, they were holding hands. Charley was very confused but happy about this development. That weekend, Laura and Charley continued messaging as Laura drove to a good friend's wedding in Detroit, and it wasn't long before they were planning a second date for when she got back to the River City. ...and the rest is history!
